After thirteen years, the APAA council meeting is now back again to Taiwan and this time we are going to present the beauty of Taiwan by hosting the meeting in Taipei.
Taipei, Taiwan: the Crown Jewel of Formosa
The capital of Taiwan, Taipei is the political, financial, and cultural lifeline of the island. It is a modern metropolis with world-class shopping, dozens of great museums, a wide variety of excellent restaurants, and history, all connected seamlessly by one of the best public transportation systems in the world.
Night owls will be thrilled with Taipei's jazzy nightlife. Known as the "Manhattan of Taipei," the Xinyi Shopping District brings together upscale malls, cinemas and all manner of international cuisine. A slew of nightclubs are located in the posh Xinyi district. A sleuth of major pubs and wine bars, and cosmopolitan restaurants are scattered throughout the district.
Aside from these accolades, to the Taipei 101, an awe-inspiring skyscraper, the vaunted National Palace Museum, where some of the world’s most beloved historic relics are housed, and the celebrated Taipei Metro, arguably the world’s best rapid transit system.
Taipei has many well-kept secrets awaiting your discovery. Its food culture, for one, does not disappoint. If you haven't heard of Taipei's street food, you have no idea what you're missing out on. Oyster omelet, braised pork rice, mango ice, beef noodles... The list goes on and on. You can grab these sumptuous delicacies at the wildly popular night markets like Shilin and Shida.
Before you jump the gun and say that the city might be too quick-paced and hard for your taste, do take note: the metropolis is not all concrete and buildings - it is home to natural beauties like Yangmingshan National Park, famous for its cherry blossoms and hot spring pools. And if you're a tea connoisseur, do check out Maokong, a popular tea-tasting destination that offers scenic views of the entire city.
Also, nestled in the mountains is a number of beautifully constructed, eco-friendly hiking trails for the fitness-minded. Taipei has also made great strides in protecting and rehabilitating its wildlife: stop by the Guandu Nature Park and you will be amazed by its rich biodiversity. If day-tripping gives you sore feet, swing by world-class hot springs in Taipei’s northern suburbs, and indulge in a therapeutic bath: Beitou appeals to the geriatric in all of us. Best of all, these destinations are easily reachable within an hour by car or the Taipei Metro.
There you have it: one of the most laid-back capital cities in the world with the most incredible street food selections, a phenomenal diversity of shopping haunts, the colorful club scene and increasingly environmentally-aware scenic spots, all accessible via the city’s award-winning, far-reaching Metro systems and bus services, fared affordably.
Taipei has advanced by leaps and bounds in the past years in all areas possible and is poised to wow the world - and the attendees of APAA 2019 70th Council Meeting. A brand-new, exciting and trendier Taipei is ready to rhapsodize everyone.
