The island of Taiwan lies in a geologically active area located at the convergent boundary of four tectonic plates. As a result, orogenic activity has made the rock strata run almost perpendicular to the coastline. Together with wave and wind erosion, coastal shift, and tectonic movement, this produces rare terrains and geological landscapes. Participants will visit the Yehliu Geopark (野柳地質公園), one of the world wonders famous for its fantastical wave erosion landscape and remarkable rocks; such as Queen's Head (女王頭), Sea Candles (燭台石), Fairy Shoe (仙女鞋), Ginger Rocks, Elephant Rock, Ice Cream Rock, Kissing Rock, and Princess' Head. Participants will also be taken to Heping Island (和平島), known for many years for its sea-eroded landscapes surrounded by unusual rocks and shores with strangely eroded topography, like “mushroom rocks” and “tofu rocks”, platforms, and cliffs.
